It is with warm hearts and deep appreciation that we announce the departure of April Newman from Social Model Recovery Systems.

April began her journey with SMRS at Rena B in September 2021. From the start, she brought passion, dedication, and heart to every role she stepped into. Her journey has taken her from serving as a Group Facilitator at Royal Palms, to working in Community-Based Housing, then back to Royal Palms, and again returning to CBH, where she continued to make a difference in the lives of countless participants.
In June 2024, April achieved a major milestone by passing her exam and becoming CCAPP-certified. Most recently, she completed her studies and passed her exam to become a Certified Peer Specialist, continuing her commitment to personal and professional growth in the field of recovery.
April’s personal motto, “One starfish at a time,” reflects her belief in the power of individual impact and the importance of meeting each participant where they are. Her dedication to encouraging participation in social and recreational events highlighted her understanding of how crucial it is to experience joy and connection in early recovery.
“I enjoy getting our participants to participate when we have social recreational events because I know how important it is to have fun in early recovery.”
April’s passion for the mission of SMRS was clear in everything she did:
“The one thing I love about SMRS is we are for the communities, we don’t turn people away, we believe in them until they believe in themselves.”
“Building a connection and rapport with the participants and meeting them where they are is what I feel is important.”
April, thank you for your unwavering dedication, compassion, and the positive energy you brought to our programs and participants. Your work has left a lasting impact, and while we are sad to see you go, we are excited for what’s ahead on your path.
On behalf of all of us at SMRS, thank you and best wishes on your next chapter.
