Mike Schaub, Senior Director of Community Relations, proudly represented Social Model Recovery Systems (SMRS) at the U.S. Veterans Hall of Fame National Annual Induction Ceremony on November 16, 2024, in Hampton, VA. This event brought together approximately 300 attendees to celebrate the service, sacrifice, and resilience of eight remarkable individuals inducted into the Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2024.
The U.S. Veterans Hall of Fame serves as a meaningful platform to honor the extraordinary contributions of those who have selflessly served the nation. The eight inductees of the Class of 2024 exemplify the highest standards of bravery and service to their communities. Their stories are a testament to the enduring strength of the human spirit and the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of many.
As the only substance use disorder treatment provider present, SMRS proudly stood in solidarity with other community services and corporate sponsors to support veterans and their families. Participating in such a prestigious event reaffirms SMRS’ commitment to addressing the unique challenges veterans face, including mental health struggles and substance use disorders.
In a moment of deep honor, Mike Schaub, representing SMRS, was asked to be of service by the Archive Director and Executive Director of the U.S. Veterans Hall of Fame to accept an award on behalf of the family of Brigadier General Albert K.B. Lyman, a posthumous inductee whose family could not attend the ceremony. Brigadier General Lyman had a distinguished career marked by groundbreaking achievements in military engineering and leadership during World War II. Accepting this award was a profound privilege for SMRS’, honoring the legacy of service and sacrifice while reaffirming SMRS’ dedication to supporting veterans and their families.
SMRS’ presence not only helps connect veterans and their families with essential recovery and wellness resources but also strengthens its relationships with private insurance providers. This is further reflected in SMRS’ recent acceptance of Tricare, expanding access to care for veterans and their families. Veterans often face unique challenges, and SMRS’ involvement in events like this fosters new opportunities to bridge gaps in care while ensuring they have the support needed to heal, grow, and thrive.
