SMRS, a distinguished nonprofit organization, has been steadfastly and quietly transforming lives through its innovative community-based housing programs. Guiding these transformative efforts with unwavering dedication is Brandon James, the Director of Community-Based Housing (CBH) and Alumni.
SMRS is committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate services for individuals facing addiction and mental health challenges. Founded in 1986, SMRS has steadily grown and expanded its reach to help more people each year.
One of the cornerstones of SMRS’ approach is our community-based housing programs, which provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals in recovery. Cypress House, located in Covina, is just one of the four community-based housing programs operated by SMRS. We collectively offer a wide range of services and support to those seeking recovery.
Cypress House: A Home for Transformation

Nestled in the heart of Los Angeles County, this program offers a supportive community for women and women with children looking to reclaim their lives from the grip of addiction and mental health challenges. Dana, a former resident of Cypress House, recently penned a heartfelt letter expressing her gratitude and appreciation for the support she received during her time in the program. In her letter, Dana acknowledges the critical role that Cypress House played in her journey to recovery.
“I want to sincerely thank you for your support while I was at Cypress House,” Dana writes. “This is a wonderful opportunity for women to start getting their lives back in order, and your continued support has been fundamentally important and appreciated.”

“The safety net you provide for us helps to guide us on our new journey through recovery. You are all wonderful role models and continue to be inspirations for what we hope to achieve in time. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart and wish nothing but success to all the future residents ” Dana added.
