Team Social Model Recovery Systems (SMRS) proudly participated in the 5th Annual Step on the Green Golf Tournament, a fundraiser hosted by 3rd Step Ministry in support of women in recovery. Representing SMRS were Dr. Anna Lee, John Catania, Albert Grant, and Ray Aguilar, who came together to “golf with a purpose” and demonstrate our continued commitment to community-based recovery efforts.

Held at the Candlewood Country Club in Whittier, California, the tournament brought together sponsors, donors, organizations, and individuals, forming 36 teams of golfers for a day of camaraderie, competition, and cause-driven action on a beautiful par 70 course. With clear skies and a shared purpose, the atmosphere was both energizing and heartening. The format was a 4-player scramble, with Team SMRS finishing strong with a round score of 68. While they didn’t place in the top three, their performance marked their best finish to date, landing them within the top 10. Dr. Anna Lee also won the Women’s Longest Drive Contest.

The fundraiser supports the annual 3rd Step Women’s Luncheon, along with scholarships and essential assistance for women in recovery. 3rd Step Ministry is a volunteer-driven organization run by individuals with lived experience in recovery from substance use disorders. Throughout the year, the organization provides an array of services, including support groups, trainings, and events that uplift and empower those on the recovery journey.

Team SMRS’ presence served as a meaningful representation of our organization’s mission to support recovery not only through treatment and prevention services but also by showing up for the wider recovery community. Participating in this event is not just about sport—it’s about being visible, standing in solidarity with those working hard to rebuild their lives, and reinforcing our shared commitment to healing and hope. The team’s participation and achievements at the tournament not only highlight their dedication but also inspire others to join the cause and make a difference in the lives of those in need.

SMRS is honored to be part of events like these, where recovery is celebrated, hope is shared, and every swing of the club moves the mission forward.
