The strongest communities are not built overnight. They are built through trust, education, partnership, and people who believe lasting change is possible. For more than 25 years, Lilia Oñate has dedicated her career to that work.

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Lilia Oñate to Director of Prevention Services for Social Model Recovery Systems. Lilia joins this role following the merger of NCADD East San Gabriel Valley with SMRS, bringing extensive experience in prevention, public health, and community leadership. Throughout her career, she has empowered young people, strengthened families, and partnered with communities to build healthier futures.

Lilia understands that prevention is about more than reducing risk – it is about creating opportunity. Whether advancing adolescent pregnancy prevention, youth substance use prevention, or broader public health initiatives, she has consistently demonstrated that lasting change begins by listening, building trust, and working alongside the communities she serves. Her leadership has helped elevate community voices, strengthen coalitions, and advance policies that create healthier, safer communities.

As Director of Prevention Services, Lilia will lead SMRS’ prevention programs, strengthening community partnerships and advancing evidence-based strategies that promote health, resilience, and well-being.

Lilia’s appointment reflects more than her years of experience. It reflects our confidence in her leadership and our belief that she is the right person to guide the next chapter of SMRS’ prevention work. We are excited for the vision, experience, and passion she brings to our organization and the communities we serve.

Please join us in congratulating Lilia Oñate on her appointment as Director of Prevention Services. We look forward to the continued impact of her leadership as she helps build healthier, stronger, and more resilient communities.
