May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize how mental health touches every part of our lives, and to encourage staff and partners to actively promote whole-person care through specific actions and initiatives at Social Model Recovery Systems.

Across our programs, we see every day that mental health and substance use are deeply connected. For many of the individuals and families we serve, the path to recovery is not just about stopping substance use. It is about healing from trauma, managing stress, rebuilding relationships, and finding stability.

At SMRS, we focus on whole-person care for this reason.

Across our programs, we create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported. These moments foster hope and reassurance, reminding everyone that support and connection facilitate recovery and make a real difference.

For our staff, this month is also a reminder to prioritize your own well-being. Your dedication is vital, and taking time to pause, recharge, and seek support shows you are valued and essential to our mission.

For the individuals and families we serve, mental health awareness is about knowing that help is available and that healing is possible.

For our partners, it is a shared commitment to continue building a system of care that is accessible, compassionate, and responsive to the needs of our communities.

Mental Health Awareness Month reflects the work we do every day, and it’s not limited to May. Supporting mental health is something we stay committed to all year long.

Because when people feel supported, connected, and understood, recovery becomes possible.
