Earlier this month, members of Social Model Recovery Systems’ Veterans Services Committee, led by Mike Schaub, Senior Director of Community Relations, proudly volunteered to help set up The Wall That Heals at Grijalva Park in Orange, California.

Hosted by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF), The Wall That Heals is a traveling exhibit that brings a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., to communities across the country. The exhibit also included the In Memory plaque and a digital display of photos honoring California veterans who have since passed away as a result of their service.
For the SMRS team, the experience was a moving reminder of the courage and sacrifice of those who served. Working side by side with other volunteers, including veterans, families, and community partners, they helped create a space for healing, remembrance, and connection.
“This wall represents healing, remembrance, and honor,” shared Mike Schaub. “It was a privilege for our team to be part of something that brings people together to remember those who gave everything.”

The exhibit remained on display from October 1 through October 5 at Grijalva Park, offering thousands of visitors a powerful opportunity to reflect and pay tribute to the men and women whose service continues to inspire generations.
