June is Men’s Health Awareness Month, a reminder that health is about mental wellness, emotional well-being, connection, and asking for support when it is needed.

Many men are often taught to keep going no matter what, to stay strong, push through stress, and carry responsibilities quietly. But taking care of yourself is not a weakness. It is part of staying healthy for your family, your community, and yourself.

At Social Model Recovery Systems (SMRS), we see every day how healing begins when people feel heard, supported, and connected. Recovery and wellness are about taking small steps forward, having honest conversations, and knowing you do not have to go through difficult moments alone, not about being perfect.

Men’s Health Awareness Month is also a chance to check in with ourselves and with the people around us. A simple conversation, taking time to rest, scheduling a medical appointment, talking about stress, or reaching out for help can make a meaningful difference.

This month, we encourage everyone to prioritize their health in whatever way they can. Drink more water. Get some rest. Spend time outside. Talk to someone you trust. Take a break when you need it. Small steps matter.

Health includes both the mind and body, and caring for both is important. Sometimes the strongest thing a person can do is ask for support.
