Social Model Recovery Systems’ staff and the Tobacco-Free Ambassadors of Bell coalition members delivered an impactful presentation before the City of Bell Council Members, highlighting key findings and community perspectives on tobacco use and access within the city. The presentation aimed to inform local leaders about the importance of preventive measures and policies that protect youth from tobacco-related harm.

During the presentation, staff and the Tobacco-Free Ambassadors of Bell members introduced their mission to promote a healthier, tobacco-free Bell. They shared data on tobacco use trends in both the City of Bell and Los Angeles County, underscoring the urgent need to address youth access.
Staff also provided an overview of Bell’s tobacco retail environment, emphasizing the density of retailers and the ease of access for underage youth. Tobacco-Free Ambassador of Bell members centered their requests on the benefits of adopting a Tobacco Retail Licensing policy, which has proven effective in reducing youth access and promoting accountability among local retailers.
Social Model Recovery Systems’ findings from the City of Bell Public Opinion Survey were presented, revealing strong community support for policies that limit tobacco use and prioritize youth health. The presentation concluded with heartfelt resident testimonials, sharing lived experiences and reinforcing the need for stronger local protections.
The voices of our youth and residents make it clear that the community of Bell is ready to take meaningful action to protect future generations. We are grateful to the City Council for their time, attention, and continued leadership in building a healthier, tobacco-free community.
Staff and the Tobacco-Free Ambassadors of Bell remain committed to working alongside city leaders, residents, and partner organizations to advance local efforts that promote health equity and safeguard youth from tobacco-related harm.
