During the 38th Annual Productivity and Quality Awards event, held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion, the Community Outreach Court (COC) received an award for their work @ the ReFresh Spot. For those who may not know, SMRS has been proud to partner with the COC (the first court of its kind in LA) led by the City Attorney’s Office in collaboration with the L.A. County Superior Court, the Mayor’s Office, the Public Defender, and the Alternate Public Defender. This innovative legal services initiative breaks down barriers to housing and employment by helping participants clear fines, misdemeanors, and warrants while also connecting them to treatment, mental health care, housing, and job opportunities. Since launching in September 2023, the court has supported more than 1,000 people and has earned national recognition as a best practice in justice reform and homelessness strategy.
We want to give a huge shoutout and congratulations to both Aaron Luckett, our Project Director and Michael Rimson, our former Project Director, along with the entire ReFresh Spot Team for supporting this work.
This is a big win for the Skid Row community and for the ReFresh Spot team! Congratulations!
