We at Social Model Recovery Systems are proud to celebrate and thank Maria Reyes, a truly inspiring member of our team who is retiring on or before August 8, 2025.

Maria’s journey with us began in 2009, not as a staff member, but as a resident at our Rena B residential program. Court-ordered to complete a year-long program, she bravely faced her struggles with methadone and opiate addiction. What started as a difficult battle with withdrawal symptoms and the temptation to leave became a transformative journey. She found her calling during a Big Book Study, and in 2010, began working as a volunteer at the front desk.
After successfully completing the program in 2011, Maria transitioned home, rebuilding relationships with her family and friends. Her restored sanity and renewed purpose led her back to Social Model Recovery Systems, where she rediscovered her passion for helping others with similar life experiences. What began as a volunteer position soon became an official role in 2013, and her dedication led to her becoming a second-phase counselor and Vocational Guidance Counselor
Maria’s career flourished, and she was given the opportunity to work alongside Cliff Barlow at our Bimini location. There, she excelled as a primary counselor for veterans and was later appointed as the MAT Champion, where she used her personal experience with opiates to educate and assist residents. Maria’s hard work and commitment continued to be recognized, leading to promotions to intake counselor, program coordinator, and eventually, Program Director.
Maria’s personal story is a testament to the power of recovery and the belief in second chances. Her unwavering passion and dedication have helped countless residents find their own sense of purpose. As Maria embarks on her next chapter, focusing on retirement and spending more time with her mother, her adult children, and her grandchildren, we wish her all the best.

Maria, thank you for your incredible contributions to Social Model Recovery Systems and for being a beacon of hope and inspiration to so many. We will miss you dearly and hope you will keep in touch.
