Social Model Recovery Systems (SMRS) is thrilled to announce the promotion of James Murrell to Program Director at Omni Center, a residential treatment program for men. James’ journey to this role reflects his dedication to recovery, his ability to inspire others, and his unwavering commitment to personal and professional growth.

James Murrell’s transformation from someone who has overcome addiction and a history of criminal behavior to a certified counselor and leader is a testament to his resilience and determination to help others. His personal experience with addiction gives him a unique ability to connect with residents and staff, fostering hope and resilience. James received his education from Options Drug and Alcohol Counseling School, where he became a certified Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) counselor through CADTP. He also holds an Associate of Science (AS) degree and Associate of Arts (AA) degrees in Business Management, Liberal Arts, and Psychology, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Psychology. James’ future goals include earning a master’s degree in social work and continuing to grow in his profession to better serve those in need.

Since joining SMRS, James has become a cornerstone of Omni Center, recognized for his empathy, patience, and problem-solving skills. He creates a supportive environment where staff and residents thrive, using his exemplary skills in individual counseling and group facilitation to guide residents through recovery. Often the first point of contact for residents at their most vulnerable, James offers compassionate guidance and practical solutions. Praised by colleagues as a mentor of integrity and positivity, he is highly regarded for his approachable and understanding nature, fostering a safe space for growth and healing.

Beyond his professional responsibilities, James is deeply engaged in his community, counseling at-risk youth on criminal and gang prevention and intervention. A devoted family man, he is a husband, father of two, stepfather of three, and grandfather. James lives by the philosophy of the Master Teacher, believing that “The best of you is he who is of service to God’s creation.”

James’ promotion reflects not only his professional achievements but also his personal growth and dedication to making a difference. His journey serves as an inspiring example of how recovery can lead to transformative change, not just for individuals but for entire communities.

Please join us in congratulating James Murrell on this well-deserved milestone. His leadership and compassion will continue to inspire staff and residents at Omni Center as they work together toward recovery and renewal.
