As National Recovery Month came to a close, the Social Model Recovery Systems (SMRS) community gathered for a joyful and meaningful day of celebration.
Organized by Vanessa Ramos, Program Director of Royal Palms, our premier LGBTQ+ residential treatment center, and Melanie Arellano, Regional Director of Los Angeles, the event honored the strength of recovery, resilience, and the importance of community.
The gathering brought together participants, residents, staff, and alumni, all on a shared journey of recovery. Food played a central role in the festivities, with homemade potato salad prepared by Community-Based Housing and Alumni Director Brandon James, and savory BBQ by Maintenance Team members Eddie Sarinana and Luis Parada, along with Omni Center Kitchen Supervisor Deon Hunter. Served by dedicated staff, the meal fostered a sense of connection, creating an atmosphere where bonds could grow.
More than just fun and food, the day was a reminder that recovery is a continuous process, requiring ongoing commitment, resilience, and support from the community. At SMRS, we’ve built a strong network where each individual is valued and supported—whether through conversations, teamwork, or the guidance of staff.
Throughout the event, participants reflected on their personal progress while celebrating the collective strength of the community. Friendly competitions like sack races and flag football emphasized teamwork and perseverance—key values in both life and recovery. Board games and line dancing provided additional opportunities for participants to bond and relax.
This celebration underscored the progress made within the community. Recovery is not just an individual path but one strengthened by collective support. Every shared meal, game, and conversation reflected the deep connections that make recovery possible. The event was a powerful reminder that SMRS is more than a treatment provider—it’s a source of hope, support, and community.
As we move forward, we continue to strengthen our recovery network. Together, we’ve created something special—a community where recovery is celebrated daily. From line dancing to games, this event affirmed the power of connection, resilience, and shared experiences. At Social Model Recovery Systems, no one walks the path of recovery alone; we are stronger together.
