We are delighted to introduce Denise Hernandez-Felice as the new Senior Director, Treatment Services at Social Model Recovery Systems (SMRS).
Denise’s journey with SMRS began in June 2018, completing an internship while pursuing her undergraduate degree at the University of La Verne. Her dedication to helping individuals facing mental health challenges and substance use disorders led her to enroll in the Drug and Alcohol Counseling program at Mt. San Antonio College, further enhancing her knowledge and skills.
In January 2019, Denise accepted a position at our Bimini treatment program, marking the start of her remarkable journey with SMRS. Driven by a strong desire for continuous learning and personal growth, she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to serving our participants and making a positive impact in their lives.
Denise’s passion for education and professional development is evident in her academic achievements. She earned a BS degree in Behavioral Science with a minor in Ethnic Studies and an AA degree in Drug and Alcohol Counseling. She also became a certified drug and alcohol counselor and pursued her Master of Social Work at Azusa Pacific University, with SMRS supporting her every step of the way.
Throughout her tenure at SMRS, Denise has excelled in various roles, including substance use disorder counselor, case manager, and group facilitator. Her aspiration to lead and empower others led to her appointment as the Bimini Program Director position, balancing the demands of graduate school and a rigorous internship. Denise shares that leading the team at Bimini was a truly rewarding experience for her.
Recognizing her passion for leadership and supporting others, Denise then took on the role of Director of Education and Training, aiming to provide valuable education and professional development opportunities for SMRS employees. Her dedication to continuous improvement and excellence aligns perfectly with SMRS’ mission.
Graduating with her Master of Social Work was a significant accomplishment, and Denise is currently working towards licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She believes in the power of hard work, perseverance, and setting clear goals to achieve success, with humility and a commitment to quality services at the core of her beliefs.
Reflecting on her journey, Denise shared, “I am deeply honored to step into the role of Senior Director, Treatment Services. My journey with SMRS has been one of profound growth and learning, and I am committed to upholding the exceptional work of our team. Together, we will continue to strive towards our mission and create a lasting impact on the lives of those we have the privilege to serve.”
