Dear River Community Family and Supporters,
As we approach January 30th, a date etched deeply in the history of Social Model Recovery Systems (SMRS), I am filled with immense pride and gratitude to be celebrating 37 years of transformative healing at River Community. This milestone is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our staff, the resilience of our residents, and the enduring support of our community.
Since its inception in 1987, River Community has been a beacon of hope for individuals navigating the complex terrain of co-occurring disorders and substance use disorders. Our journey began with a single resident, and over the years, we have expanded our reach and refined our approach, but our commitment to integrative healing has remained steadfast.
At River Community, we believe in the power of integration—integrating addiction and mental health treatment, integrating individual and group therapy, and integrating our residents back into their families and communities as empowered, whole individuals. Our program is not just a place of healing; it is a sanctuary nestled in the heart of the San Gabriel Mountains, where nature’s tranquility serves as a backdrop for profound personal transformation.
Over the past 37 years, we have witnessed countless stories of resilience, recovery, and renewal. We have seen individuals reclaim their lives, rebuild their relationships, and rediscover their sense of purpose. And as we reflect on our journey, we are reminded of the profound impact that River Community has had, not just on the lives of our residents, but on the broader landscape of addiction treatment.
As we celebrate this milestone, let us recommit ourselves to the principles that have guided us for the past 37 years: compassion, integrity, and a steadfast belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every individual.
Together, we will continue to pave the way for transformative healing, one life, one story, one day at a time.
With deepest gratitude,
Sarah Tostado
