Residents of the Omni Center, a substance use disorder treatment facility for men and a program of Social Model Recovery Systems (SMRS) led by Program Director Carlos Aguilar, recently enjoyed a special workout session at CrossFit BLVD.
The gym’s owner, Yvette Martinez, and Omni Center’s Primary Counselor Valerie Frausto collaborated to provide residents a unique opportunity to experience the benefits of exercise in their recovery journey.
Yvette, certified in Trauma and Fitness, led a CrossFit workout, guiding residents through proper exercise techniques. During the session, she shared insights into the stress-relieving and anxiety-reducing benefits of regular exercise, particularly crucial in aiding the brain’s recovery after substance abuse.
Omni center residents encouraged each other during the workout, mirroring the supportive community that Yvette has fostered at CrossFit BLVD. Yvette highlighted the importance of building a sober support group and connecting with individuals who prioritize mental and physical well-being.
The residents also expressed their enjoyment of the workout, with some mentioning it was their first time in a gym. One resident noted how the session boosted his self-esteem. The positive experience prompted Yvette to reserve a spot for Omni Center residents monthly.
Omni Center and CrossFit BLVD collaboration reflect a commitment to our residents’ well-being. These gym excursions offer more than just exercise; they provide a sense of community and empowerment for those on the path to recovery.
As residents continue to benefit from these gym excursions, the Omni Center remains steadfast in its mission to guide individuals toward lasting recovery, one empowering experience at a time.
