In July of 2021, Chris Abernathy presented to our addiction studies program at Glendale Community College for Professor Redman. I was immediately impressed by the SMRS Core Values because kindness and dignity are crucial to me at this stage in my life. My ambitions are simple: to work with people struggling with SUDs as I have in my lifespan, to obtain more experience working in the field, complete my CAADE hours, and obtain my CATC certification. I look forward to meeting everyone on the team, and I hope to be a valuable and useful asset to the Omni Center and most importantly, to the residents.

I am excited to join the Social Model Recovery Systems family. I will be working at Royal Palms as a primary aide. My goals are to work collaboratively toward resident care and to add value to our team and organizational core beliefs. I plan on furthering my education in this field and have heard first-hand accounts of Social Model Recovery Systems’ support and encouragement toward staff development and advancement. I believe the two most important days in our lives are the day we are born and the day we discover our purpose. SUD recovery work is truly a passion of mine, and I look forward to gaining experience, insight, and standing shoulder to shoulder with my Social Model Recovery Systems community.

As I begin working at Social Model Recovery Systems, I am hoping to expand my knowledge and help our Residents recover. My field choice is social work, but maybe working at SMRS will guide me into looking into another career path in which I would be okay with. I know working at SMRS will help me grow and help me get a better understanding why many people rely on substances. I hope to grow with this company and adhere to the amazing core beliefs. I am excited to work for a company that is so understanding and lenient but also cares about their staff.
