“New year, New me” is the typical yearly new year resolution we see in our social media feeds posted by our family and friends. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that there is something wrong with them or that they will change.

Old way or a new way

There are 365 days in a year,  and the beginning of the year is always the perfect time to reflect on the things we’ve done in the past year. New Year encourages us to become the best version of ourselves; we must shake off the desire to live a life in perfect detail. And sometimes, it can just be all about perspective.

A person can either be optimistic, pessimistic, or realistic. The glass is half full (optimistic), as there is still half left. To pessimists, the glass is half empty or half gone. To realists, the glass is both half empty and half full. We view things differently. It is up to the person’s perspective whether it is a setback or a set-up to a new opportunity.

This new year can bring a new perspective with fresh hope if we just enjoy the present. We can learn from the past year and look forward to the new year with optimism.

Accept every failure, every heartache, and every tear you have experienced in the past year. If you fail, then that is a good sign you are doing something for yourself and you did not let your fear get in your way. Life can be harsh sometimes, but it is kind most of the time. For us to become the best version of ourselves, we must let go and just live in the present without regrets. Past is past and we cannot change it. We either keep dwelling in the past and be bitter or just accept things we cannot change and be better.

This year, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. It’s ok to make mistakes but learn from them. Take chances, big or small. Challenge yourself and create memories with people you love and care about.

Set personal goals, evaluate your life, and think about the things you want to do differently in this new year. Don’t just wait – life just might pass you by. Take action.

Above all, do things that make you happy. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Do things that inspire you to live your best life – not things that drain you instead of fulfill you.

This is your year. Live better. Improve not just physical health but also your mental health.
