Along the way, she recognized a deeper calling to grow, not just professionally, but personally. She wanted to do work rooted in dignity, healing, and social justice, especially for individuals and families impacted by trauma and substance use. An MSW felt like the right step forward.

The journey wasn’t easy. Balancing work, school, and life required real sacrifice, resilience, and commitment. There were moments of doubt and high stress, but Elizabeth kept going. “I never thought I had it in me to pursue an education at this level,” she shared. “Earning this degree reminds me of my strength and resilience.” It’s a milestone that reflects not just academic success, but deep personal growth.

At Mariposa, Elizabeth brings this growth into her leadership every day. Her MSW strengthens her ability to lead with compassion, provide trauma-informed and ethical care, and support both staff and program development. Most importantly, it allows her to better serve the women at Mariposa with greater understanding, cultural humility, and care.

What Elizabeth loves most about her work is witnessing transformation. She sees the courage it takes for women to show up, heal, and rebuild, often while carrying heavy life experiences. “Being trusted to walk alongside them during such a vulnerable time is deeply meaningful,” she said.

Throughout her MSW journey, Elizabeth learned the importance of staying open, open to learning, feedback, and growth. She also learned to trust herself and her decisions, knowing they can have a meaningful impact on others.

Support made all the difference. Elizabeth credits her family, colleagues, and practicum site for walking alongside her during this chapter. Her team at Mariposa offered flexibility and encouragement, and her practicum experience at Omni Center gave her space to learn and apply her education in real, meaningful ways.

To anyone working toward a goal of their own, Elizabeth offers this reminder: Don’t stop, keep going until you meet your goals, even when it feels hard or slow. Growth isn’t always linear, and doubt is part of the process. Stay connected to your purpose, ask for support, and trust that your efforts matter.

Today, Elizabeth is celebrating by doing something well-deserved: resting. She’s taking time to reset, reflect, and truly acknowledge how far she’s come, surrounded by the people who supported her along the way.

We are incredibly proud of Elizabeth Coronel and grateful for the heart, leadership, and care she brings to Mariposa every day. Her journey is a powerful reminder that growth is possible and that when we keep going, it truly matters.

For Elizabeth Coronel,
