In President Biden\u2019s first State of the Union, he named addressing the opioid crisis and overdose epidemic a top priority of his Administration, and earlier this year released his National Drug Control Strategy to expand access to treatment for addiction and overdose, and to disrupt drug trafficking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cProviding access to evidence-based, person-centered care is a central part of HHS\u2019 strategy for ending the overdose crisis,\u201d<\/em> <em>said Secretary Xavier Becerra.<\/em> \u201c<em>I have heard many stories of despair from individuals battling addiction and from families who have lost loved ones to overdose. Through these grants, we are investing in evidence-based supports and services for individuals, families, and communities on the road to recovery. Through these grants, we are investing in hope.\u201d<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Grant&nbsp;investments include four types of critical funding for states and communities in need:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SAMHSA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.samhsa.gov\/grants\/grant-announcements\/ti-22-005\">SOR grant program<\/a>: SOR\u00a0provides formula funding to states and territories for increasing access to FDA-approved medications for the treatment of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), and for supporting prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery support services for OUD and other concurrent substance use disorders (SUD).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SAMHSA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.samhsa.gov\/grants\/grant-announcements\/ti-22-006\">TOR grant program<\/a>: TOR addresses the overdose crisis in Tribal communities by increasing access to FDA-approved medications for the treatment of opioid misuse, and supporting prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery support services for opioid and stimulant misuse and co-occurring mental and substance use conditions.<br><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SOR\/TOR technical assistance for education and training to states: Additionally, $16.6 million in related funding is going to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.samhsa.gov\/grants\/grant-announcements\/ti-22-007\">SOR\/TOR Technical Assistance<\/a>\u00a0program, whose national network of consultants provide free educational resources and training to states, communities, and individuals in prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery services for OUDs and SUDs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HRSA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrsa.gov\/rural-health\/opioid-response\">Rural Communities Opioid Response Program<\/a>: HHS is investing directly in the nation\u2019s rural communities. HHS\u2019 HRSA has announced investments of more than $104\u00a0million to expand treatment and prevention services for substance use, included medications for OUD, in rural communities nationwide as part of its Rural Communities Opioid Response Program, a multi-year initiative aimed at reducing the morbidity and mortality of rural Americans from substance use disorder.<br><br><strong>The release adds that HRSA\u2019s announcement highlights funding through the following three programs:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrsa.gov\/rural-health\/opioid-response\/mat-access\/fy22-awards\">Rural Communities Opioid Response Program \u2013 Medication Assisted Treatment Access<\/a>\u00a0awarded over $10 million to establish new medication assisted treatment access points for substance use disorder, including OUD, in rural communities. The program will reduce barriers to evidence-based treatment in underserved rural areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrsa.gov\/rural-health\/opioid-response\/implementation\/fy22-awards\">Rural Communities Opioid Response Program \u2013 Implementation<\/a>\u00a0awarded $65\u00a0million to strengthen and expand OUD prevention, treatment, and recovery services in rural communities through workforce development and training, behavioral health care integration, and support services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrsa.gov\/rural-health\/opioid-response\/behavioral-health-care-support\/fy22-awards\">Rural Communities Opioid Response Program \u2013 Behavioral Health Care Support<\/a>\u00a0awarded $29 million to improve the quality and sustainability of behavioral health care services in rural communities, including through evidence-based, trauma-informed treatment for substance use. The program works to improve rural residents\u2019 access to quality, integrated behavioral health care services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant represent the latest example of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/overdose-prevention\/\">HHS Overdose Prevention Strategy<\/a>&nbsp;in action, investing in the nation\u2019s communities to strengthen treatment services and recovery supports and to save lives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The US Department of Health awards $1.6 Billion to address the addiction and overdose crises.
