Mariposa staff and residents celebrated Juneteenth. Residents filled their poster boards with quotes, pictures, and history. We learned that the significance of Juneteenth is the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved people in the United States. Juneteenth is also called Freedom Day or Emancipation Day. After the presentation, we enjoyed a delicious dinner that included fried chicken, baked macaroni, potato salad, and pork beans. To some of our residents, it was their first time celebrating Juneteenth.
