Asian Pacific Islander Wellness Summit 2019

Social Model Recovery Systems was recently invited to have a booth at the API Wellness Summit 2019: "Sharing Our Stories of Resilience." This summit, hosted by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Asian Pacific Islander UsCC (Underserved Cultural Communities) Subcomittee, brought together API consumers, family members, community members, and mental health and allied professionals, to improve awareness regarding mental health issues and their impact on API consumers, families, and communities. The morning featured a keynote address by Leo Lishi Huang, API UsCC Subcommittee Cho-Chair and a play called "StanD" by Christopher Belen Aguilar, which was inspired by his own experience with bipolar disorder and how his Filipino-American family learned to help. The afternoon included an API Consumer and Family Member Panel, where recovery stories were shared, and 6 diverse workshops on a variety of topics that impact API consumers, family members, and community members. We were honored to collaborate on this event and to connect and bring awareness to individuals in the API community.
